Background:
Due to the Police Department's increased enforcement related to narcotic operations and critical incidents, the department has relied on outside local agencies to assist. These operations or incidents require several officers to safely and effectively conduct them. We rely heavily on the Alamosa Sheriffs Office to provide perimeter security while conducting any entry where a search warrant has been obtained or any incident where an exigent circumstance exists. The cooperation between agencies helps to protect officers and civilians.
The draft of the IGA attached to this agreement has been reviewed by APD, the City Attorney, and the County Attorney. It has yet to be finally reviewed by the Sheriff, so there may be minor changes between first and second reading. The scope and major provisions of the IGA should not change. The ordinance authorizes the Police Chief to sign a final version of the IGA so long as it is substantially similar, in the opinion of the City Attorney, to the one attached to the ordinance.
