ALAMOSA CITY COUNCIL
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION

Subject/Title:

Motion authorizing the Mayor and City Staff to sign FAA grant documents for the Concessions Rent Relief Airport Rescue Grant.

Recommended Action:

Staff recommends that Council authorize the Mayor and City Staff to sign the attached grant agreements for FAA funds for the Alamosa Airport.

Background:

Because the City remains a joint owner of the Airport property, it is listed as a sponsor and thus grant applications must include City authorization.  The City is not involved in the project and does not have any resources dedicated to the project.

The County was successful in receiving funding through the Airport American Rescue Plan Act.  They have received funding in the amount of $8,605.  The purpose of the funds is to provide rent relief to in-terminal tenants due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Issue Before the Council:

Does Council wish to authorize the Mayor and City Staff to sign the attached grant documents for the Alamosa Airport?

Alternatives:

Council can authorize the Mayor and City Staff to sign the documents or provide further direction to staff.

Fiscal Impact:

There is zero fiscal impact to the City.  The grant would provide $8,605 towards the Airport operations handled by Alamosa County.

Legal Opinion:

The City Attorney will be present for questions.

Conclusion:

While the City plays no role in the Airport operations, the joint ownership of the land requires the City's authorization of any grant applications per FAA requirements.
